Hello and welcome to the Dandelion Interior Design website. I am delighted that you are spending a little time here with me and looking at some of my projects. I have loved designing and executing each one and it is a joy to be able to share them with you.
I have always enjoyed interior design and am one of the few people I know who is happiest when I have the builders in! lt is immensely satisfying getting the most out of a space, sometimes by moving walls or building extensions, but often simply by arranging furniture to make a room work well.
We moved to Chilling House in 1996. It is a beautiful late Georgian house in the High Street of a village in West Kent which it has been my privilege gradually to turn into a five bedroom family house.
As a family our favourite holiday destination is Cornwall and in 2008 we bought a run-down bungalow overlooking the sea.
Initially I spent a modest amount of money on a 'minimal tart-up' of the bungalow, getting the rusted up central heating to work (and work legally), putting in very cheap carpets and having everywhere repainted white. It amazed me what a difference it made replacing the 1970s wall lights with some modern fittings. The room was transformed. I would love the opportunity to help other people with similar projects. A few inexpensive changes can make so much difference to the look and feel of a home, either one that you are planning to live in or one you are hoping to sell.
My pride and joy is Greenaway Reach, the house I had built in 2010 on the plot of the bungalow. I worked with a local architect Catchfrench Design to plan a holiday house that works wonderfully as a base for parties of family and friends to enjoy all that the Cornish coast can offer.
Throughout I have used the organisational, financial and project coordination skills developed in my former career as a Chartered Accountant to work effectively with architects, builders, lighting designers, curtain makers and decorators. I am experienced in managing budgets and always try to maximise value for money.
In 2018 I spent several months working with the lovely Fiona to experience life in a professional interior design company, then completed my Certificate in Interior Design from the well known interior design school KLC.
The style and requirements of each project are different and to me no space is the same - bringing a room to life with a unique and creative use of colour, textures and styles to fit the context is all part of the fun! I am a strong believer that your home is a reflection of you, and so would spend time understanding your personality and lifestyle to inform my designs.
If you are thinking about making a change to your home and would like some help I would be delighted to hear from you. Until then, enjoy the photos in the gallery!
